Heart of the Hill

Heart of the Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is very special to our portfolio. We have farmed Cabernet from Red Mountain vineyards for many years, but this small parcel in the “heart” of Red Mountain is a superb site that demands to be showcased. Since 2015, our Heart of the Hill Cabernet Sauvignon has been bottled as a vineyard-designate, harnessing this unique site’s richness, power, and density.

Clos De Betz -
Inspired by the Burgundian vineyard Close de Bèze

Clos de Betz honors Bob and Cathy Betz’s earliest dreams of starting a winery. In 1973, they stood before one of the most renowned temples of French Pinot Noir, the Burgundian vineyard Clos de Bèze. Struck by the profound way it could exemplify both a sense of place and the purity of its grape variety, they resolved to produce a wine that would one day convey that ever-elusive but magical marriage of site character and varietal expression. Washington Merlot, with its singular dance of weighty richness and structured minerality, provided the perfect canvas and has formed the core of Clos de Betz since its first vintage in 1998.

Père de Famille -
Father of the Family

Quintessential Washington Cabernet Sauvignon. That was the quest that we embarked upon over twenty years ago, when the first vintage of Père de Famille, the Father of the Family, was resting in the cellar. The journey to find it has taken us traversing the state ever since, exploring vineyards from the Western Yakima Valley to Walla Walla, in search of superlative, expressive parcels. After two decades of stained hands, purple teeth, and dusty shoes, we think we’re on to something: a wine that expresses the powerful and penetrating soul of Columbia Valley Cabernet.

Rhône-Style Wines

Bésoleil -
Kissed by the Sun

The name “Bésoleil” is a fusion of the Spanish word “Beso” and the French word “Soleil,” roughly translated as “kissed by the sun.” This name embodies our strong belief that a remarkable representation of Grenache (and similar varietals from the Southern Rhône) can flourish in Washington’s unique blend of sunlight and soil. Inspired by Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the iconic French wine known for its Grenache-dominant blend, our Bésoleil is all about instant allure, luxurious aromas, and a seductive texture.

Domaine De Pierres -
Field of Stones

Our affection for site-expressive Syrah led us here to “The Rocks” of Milton-Freewater District in the Walla Walla AVA in 2014. The area is named for the large river stones that permeate the vineyards, adding distinct characteristics to the wine and distinguishing it from other Washington AVAs. We purchased the Ancient Stones vineyard and immediately got to work tilling the soil multiple times each year to expose the latent rocks. The results are clearly shown in every glass of our Domaine de Pierres (“Field of Stones”).

La Côte Patriarche -
The Founder's Slope

La Côte Patriarche, French for “The Founder’s Slope,” is a tribute to the pioneering spirit of Mike Sauer and the esteemed Master of Wine, David Lake. In 1986, they planted Washington’s very first Syrah grapes at Red Willow Vineyard, setting the stage for a legacy of exceptional winemaking. Those original vines are the soul of our La Côte Patriarche, a wine that embodies the rich history and distinctive character of Red Willow. This influential site has shaped our wine and provided Syrah cuttings to vineyards across the state, spreading its legacy far and wide. Our own La Serenne is a proud recipient of these historic cuttings.

La Serenne -
Calmness

La Serenne is a remarkable Syrah crafted from vines thriving in the prestigious Boushey Vineyard. Nestled at the highest altitude, these grapes are among the latest to be harvested among all our wines, resulting in a unique and distinctive flavor profile. Born from cuttings originating from the renowned Red Willow Vineyard, this exceptional wine bears the legacy of collaborative efforts between Bob Betz, MW, and Dick Boushey, proprietor.

La Côte Rousse -
The Red Slope

Since our 2021 vintage, La Côte Rousse has been sourced from Olsen Vineyard in the esteemed Yakima Valley. At its higher elevation, fruit grown at Olsen Vineyard tends to experience cooler temperatures, resulting in more acid-driven wines that beautifully reflect the terroir.
